compromising the ability of the future generation to meet their own
needs’.
Environment and economy are interdependent and hence need each other.
The biggest aim is to reduce the clash between economy and environment
by balancing the short-term material interests with the long term
environmental sustainability. Thus sustainable development is an approach
to economic planning that attempts to foster economic growth while
preserving the quality of environment for future generation. More than
150 nations in the world are working upon the “Sustainable Development
Goals” set up by the United Nations. This includes poverty, hunger, health,
education, climate change, gender equality, water, sanitation, energy,
environment and social justice. India has also played an important role to
achieve the targets of SDGs.The current government is working on its
agenda of “sabka sath sabka vikas” (Collective Effort,Inclusive growth). For
implementing the SDGs it has launched various programmes like Pradhan
Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna, Swachh Bharat Mission etc. Of course we cannot
stop extracting resources from the earth but we can make it sustainable
by moderate use. Earth as a whole must be cared for, and united action
by nations by considering for a moment that they live on borderless
planet is needed to sustain the planet. We have not received the earth
from our ancestors to exploit it in the way we want. We should consider
ourselves guardians of the
planet earth, rather than beneficiaries with future guardians counting on
us to keep it safe.
