WATER AUDIT
A step forward to save water.
Water is a precious natural national resource with almost fixed quantum of availability. With
ever-rising standard of living of people, all around rapid Industrialization and Urbanization,
demand of fresh water is going up continuously. Though 70% of earth surface is covered by
water, only 2.5% of it is available as fresh water. Presently with 2.4% of land and 4% of water
resources, India has to support 16% of World’s population and 15% of livestock.
Water Audit is an effective management tool for minimizing losses, optimizing various uses of
water. It is qualitative and quantitative analysis of water consumption to identify means of
reducing, reusing and recycling of water.
Since Water Audit is one of the core element for water consumption; We, the students of BE
Civil, decided to conduct a ‘Water Audit’ as our project under the guidance of our project
guide- Dr. U. J. Kahalekar, Professor, Civil Engineering Dept., GECA.
Water Audit was completed in three stages: (1) Pre (2) Process and (3) Post Audit. We started
working on Water Audit from our institute itself. In Pre Audit process, we studied the present
scenario of water consumption in girl’s hostel, boy’s hostel and Civil Engineering Department.
Concluding the requirements for optimizing the water uses, we took the following steps:
